446 Fosdyke Bridge to Frampton Marsh

[This walk was completed on the 8th July, 2021]

Glad to be back on my coastal trek, I hide my bike behind the hull of an old boat. It’s in a ramshackle yard, beside Fosdyke Bridge.

The bridge itself is an ugly old thing. It takes the A17 across the River Welland and, as far as I can tell, the bridge can’t move. Which means that no large ships can get beyond this point up the river.

445 Holbeach St Matthew to Fosdyke Bridge

[This walk was completed on the 13th June 2021]

I hide my Scooty bike in some bushes, and regain the sea bank near Holbeach St Matthew.

Sea bank? Not much sign of the sea, to be honest. Just a swathe of marshy grassland, intercut with channels of water.

444 Gedney Drove End to Holbeach St Matthew

[This walk took place on the 12th June 2021]

I chain up my Scooty bike, and leave him hidden in some bushes. I’m back on Marsh Lane, near Gedney Drove End, and heading back to the sea wall.

A path climbs up onto the bank, and here the public footpath restarts along the sea wall. Why is there a gap in the footpath at this point? I don’t know.

[This walk was completed on the 11th June, 2021]

I chain my bike to a fence in the little parking area on the east bank of the River Nene, and set off walking down the road towards Sutton Bridge.

441b King’s Lynn to Ongar Hill

[This walk was completed on the 9th June, 2021]

The ferry is running this morning! I am cycling through West Lynn, past the ferry car park, when I notice there are several cars parked there, and then I see a lady hurrying up the steps to the ticket office.

I hastily chain up my Scooty bike at a rack in the car park, and run after the lady – just in time to buy a ticket and catch the next crossing.

441 King’s Lynn Revisited

[This short walk took place on the 8th June, 2021]

I’m standing beside an offshoot of the River Ouse, looking at a group of derelict old boats abandoned on the bank. Crikey! They have really deteriorated in the 11 years since I was last here in King’s Lynn.

I’ve been worrying about today, for a number of reasons.

440pm Melvaig to Rubha Reidh

[This walk was completed on the 14th August 2020]

After lunch, I drive along the private road towards the Rubha Reidh headland and lighthouse. It’s a narrow road with only a few, infrequent passing-places, so I drive slowly and worry about meeting something head-on. In fact, I meet nobody.

I soon arrive at a car park near the tip of the Rubha Reidh headland, heave my Monster bike out the boot, and set off pedalling….

440am North Erradale to Melvaig

[This walk was completed on the 14th August 2020]

I start walking – along the B8021 – towards Melvaig. It’s a lonely road, with relatively little traffic and only a few sheep for company.

Below me is North Erradale, the crofting settlement, with cottages and houses spread out across the valley floor.

439pm Gairloch to North Erradale

[This walk was completed on the 13th August 2020]

After a picnic lunch, I head down onto the sands of Big Sand. Now I know why the place is called Big Sand. What a lovely long beach.
