396pm Ardtoe to Shiel Bridge

[This walk was completed on the 8th May 2019]

I’m very pleased I decided to walk up to Ardtoe and discovered those beautiful beaches. Now I must walk back along the road. With less incentive to stop and take photographs, I make rapid progress.

On the way, I meet a couple of cyclists coming towards me up a hill. The man in front  leading the way…

… and the woman puffing after him. Continue reading

396am Arivegaig (Kentra Bay) to Ardtoe

[This walk was completed on the 8th May 2019]

I drive back to Arivegaig, on the edge of Kentra Bay, and park at the end of the public road. It’s a beautiful day, and I’m the only person here.

395 Singing Sands (Gortenfern) to Arivegaig

[This walk was completed on Tuesday 7th May 2019]

I park in a little carpark at the end of the public road near Arivegaig, Kentra Bay. It’s only 8 miles to Ockle, says a footpath sign, but I’m not going as far as that. Just back to the Singing Sands at Gortenfern to pick up my walk where I left off yesterday.

394 Ockle to Singing Sands (Gortenfern)

[This walk was completed on Monday 6th May 2019]

I drive down the winding single-track road to Ockle (love that name!), where I park at the end of the road, next to a car and an old boat.

It’s a beautiful day. Blue skies and a cool breeze. Perfect walking weather. I follow the farm track up the hill, where a farmer is shooing his sheep into a field. Continue reading

393 Achateny to Kilmory and Ockle

[This walk was completed on Sunday, 5th May 2019]

I’m back in Scotland, and determined to finish walking around the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. I think some coastal walkers did this section in a couple of days. I seem to have been here for weeks and weeks!

Drive back to the farm at Achateny, and park on the same grass verge as I did before. There’s another car here, belonging to a dog walker.

392 Port Eigin-aig to Achateny

[This walk was completed on Monday, the 15th April, 2019]

It’s a dull and windy day. I park near a farm at a place called Achateny, and walk along to where the public road stops, at a place called Fascadale. From there I follow a farm track, and then a path (of sorts), until I reach the spot where I ended yesterday’s walk.

I’m back at the lonely little cove of Port Eigin-aig.

391 (pm) Kilchoan and Ardnamurchan Lighthouse

[visited on Sunday, 14th April 2019]

After my short walk this morning, I should be buzzing with energy, but I feel strangely tired. My first priority is to find somewhere to buy food. So, I drive into Kilchoan and follow the signs to the village shop. It is closed. How frustrating. The next shop is 15 miles away, and no guarantee that one will be open either. Continue reading

391 Kilchoan to Glendrian and Port Eigin-aig

[This walk took place on the 14th April 2019]

Today I’m walking through the abandoned settlement, of Glendrian, to reach a tiny bay called Port Eigin-aig. Then, because I have no way of getting back to my car otherwise, I’m just going to turn round and walk back again.

Driving slowly along the minor road towards Sanna, I find a parking place at the start of the path. I can’t see far along the track – just to the brow of the hill. So I set off with a mixture of hope and trepidation. Will the path shown on the map actually exist on the ground?

390pm Portuairk to Sanna and Kilchoan

[This walk was completed on the 13th April 2019]

I don’t want to leave Portuairk, but know I must press on. I nearly miss the rustic wooden sign that points the way to Sanna.

390am Kilchoan to Portuairk

[This walk was completed on the 13th April 2019]

It’s a beautiful, bright morning. I drive back to Kilchoan and heave my Monster of a bike out of the boot. It’s going to be a long walk today, but my bike will help to shorten the final leg of my journey.
