389 pm Glenmore to Kilchoan

[This walk was completed on the 12th April 2019]

I spot a group of people walking up the hill above me, and I decide to leave the road and take the path. Those other people must be seasoned walkers and they must know the way. All I have to do is follow them.

389 am Glenmore to Kilchoan

[This walk was completed on the 12th April 2019]

I’m not in a good mood. This morning, I must catch the one-and-only bus of the day, and its starting point is getting further and further away from my B&B, so I must set off in the car while it’s still dark.

Firstly, I’m definitely NOT a morning person and, secondly, I’m forced to miss breakfast. Continue reading

388 (afternoon) Borrowdale to Glenmore

[This walk was completed on the 11th April 2019]

I’ve only walked 8 miles this morning, and still have plenty of energy despite my early start. So, I decide to continue a little further. I could use my monster of a bike and do a there-and-back route – but I decide to do a circular walk instead.

The bike looks at me reproachfully from the boot of the car, but I harden my heart, and set off down the road. Soon I come to a sign for the Ardnamurchan Natural History and Visitor Centre.

388 Salen to Glenborrodale

[This walk was completed on the 11th April 2019]

I get up early, skip breakfast, drive to Glenborrodale, and catch the one-and-only bus of the day from Glenborrodale to Salen, where I’m dropped off at the Salen Hotel.

387 pm Strontian to Salen

[This walk was completed on the 10th April 2019]

I leave the hide and walk back to rejoin the main road. Well, you can’t really call it a main road, with virtually no traffic.

387am Strontian to Salen

[This walk took place on April 10th 2019]

I park my car in a village called Salen, and catch the early morning bus back to Strontian. Today, I must start from the point where my last walk ended, and that means from the front of the Strontian Hotel. What a lovely view.

386 Laudale House to Strontian

[This walk was completed on the 31st March 2019]

Over breakfast in my hotel, I joke with a couple of other residents about how much I hate my Monster of a bicycle. It’s been sitting in the back of my car for the past few days, hitching a free ride. Now it’s time to get the blasted thing out and put it to use.

I wobble down 6 miles of road and reach the lonely spot where I ended yesterday’s walk.

385pm Kinlochteacuis to Laudale House

[This walk took place on the 30th March 2019]

This morning, I hiked 8 miles along a track over the hills, and now a signpost tells me where I’ve been. Scottish Woodlands, Glencripesdale. Love the weathered look.

385am Kinlochteacuis to Laudale House

[This walk took place on Saturday, the 30th March, 2019]

I planned this walk on the Thursday. It was a logistical nightmare.

The first taxi driver listened to my request, and then told me she didn’t work on Saturdays. The second taxi driver listened politely to my long and somewhat vague description of possible pick-up and drop-off points, and then told me he was currently on holiday. He was my last option, and so I was very disappointed. Then, he called me back – and to my intense surprise – told me he would be home the next day, and agreed to take me. Continue reading

384 Doirlinn (almost) to Kinlochteacuis

[This walk took place on the 29th of March, 2019]

There is a wide tarmac space at the end of the road to Kinlochteacuis, but a sign informs me it’s a turning area and I must NOT park there. So I turn round and drive back until I find a flat enough patch of grass to leave my car.
