It’s Easter Sunday. And so… of course… it’s raining. I decide to go for a short walk today, my hubby will go for a short bike ride, and we’ll enjoy a lazy afternoon together.
There are no obvious paths along the coast, and so I’m staying inland – a mile or so from the shore – and with be sticking to country lanes and tracks. Luckily there is no wind, so I walk under my big green umbrella (Nicholas Crane style). Continue reading
I sit down for a brief rest on Balcary Point and enjoy the view looking eastwards over Hestan Island, with Rockcliffe in the distance. Then I climb further up Balcary Hill. The views from here are even more stunning.
I leave my car in the village of Auchencairn, and my husband drives me to the layby on the A711 so that I can start today’s walk exactly where I ended yesterday’s walk, next to the Screel Woods.
It’s rained overnight, and I set off from Palnackie on a dull morning. My planned route is going to be tortuous, following Core Paths and winding around a couple of long peninsulas.
After lunch, I head out of Dalbeattie along the A711. It’s a fairly busy road at this point, and not the best of walking experiences.
Time to find the crossing over the Urr Water… ah, there it is. The bridge is narrow and old. I’m glad a set of traffic lights restricts traffic to a one-way flow. Continue reading
Rockford is a pretty place, but like anywhere it looks less attractive with the tide out. I park my car and set off along the path that runs behind the houses at the far end of the bay.
Sandyhills is a lovely place. And, for the first time for many weeks, I truly feel I’m beside the seaside, rather than on an estuary.
The day gets off to a wintry start. Stong winds and dark skies over Cumbria. I take a quick photograph of Southerness lighthouse and zip up my jacket. There’s rain coming.
I return to New Abbey – and this time I have a proper camera with a full battery. Unfortunately, the light isn’t as good as yesterday, but I take some reasonable photographs of Sweetheart Abbey.
Today the sun is shining for the first time since I arrived in Scotland. So I’m looking forward to taking some great photographs.
But when I switch on my camera… oh no… the battery is flat! What a shame. I have to use my iPhone to take a few snaps of Dumfries.
