It’s just gone 1pm when I reach Clachtoll. I walk down a lane to the beach, climb high onto a grassy knoll, and eat my picnic lunch. What a view.

I walk across the pale sands of Achmelvich Beach, and stop on the far slope to take a photograph looking back across the little bay. What a beautiful beach. And, there’s my campsite on the other side.

I cycle to Lochinver, and chain my Scooty bike up in the car park, then walk along the main road towards the bridge over the River Inver. What a lovely old bridge.

I study the little map. Culag wood is a community wood, managed by local people and the paths look quite straightforward. I will head towards the sea, and pick up the path called “Billy’s Path”, which should take me up and into the harbour area.

I cycle along the “wee mad road” from Lochinver to the parking spot overlooking Loch Buine Moire. Leave my bike chained up behind a gorse bush…

… pull on my hi-vis vest, and manage to snap a selfie. (I’m getting good at these!)

This morning, I first drive and then cycle along a terribly beautiful but treacherous road – full of steep hills, blind bends, unexpected twists and turns. Finally, I arrive back at yesterday’s unofficial parking place. Throw my Scooty bike in the ditch, adjust my high-vis vest, and sling my rucksack over my shoulders.

I was planning to drive round to Culnacraig and finish the Postie’s walk today, by walking from there to the cairn where I ended my previous attempt. BUT… of course there was going to be a BUT… the weather is even worse today, with driving rain and a swirling wind.
So, here I am, back at the Drumrunie turn-off. I stow my bike behind a green shed, and snap a photo. That’s the road I will walk down today – a narrow, single-track road that threads its way along the side of a long valley.

I’m back at the turn-off to Blughasary. But I’m not attempting the Postie’s walk today.

Yesterday was full of gorgeous sunshine and warmth. This morning, I wake to a gloomy sky. Never mind – it’s perfect walking weather. This is the view from my camping pitch.

I drive to my end-point for the day (more on that later) and cycle back to the campsite, chain up my Scooty bike, and begin my walk, starting along the A835.

I had been staying in a B&B, but last night I moved on to a campsite at a place just north of Ullapool, called Ardmair. This morning, I cycle back to the car park where I ended yesterday’s walk. Today, I’m walking into Ullapool itself, and then on to Ardmair.
