465 View point to view point, Drumchork

[This walk was completed on the 20th May 2022]

I return to the viewpoint above Tournaig, and hide my bike (somewhat unsuccessfully) at the bottom of a bank. My heart isn’t in the walk this morning.

Stand and take photos of the view across Loch Ewe. Shame the weather is dull and it is hard to take a decent photograph. Looks like rain over on those mountains.

464 Naast to Poolewe to Inverewe Viewpoint

[This walk was completed on the 19th May 2022]

I set off down the driveway. My B&B overlooks Loch Ewe, and the view is wonderful despite the dark clouds over the mountains.

Today I’m walking to Poolewe, and then on to a viewpoint further along the road, where I have left my van. If I have the energy, I might walk further… but we’ll see. My distances seem to be getting shorter and shorter!

463 Cove to Naast

[This walk was completed on the 18th May 2022]

I wake up to dark clouds. My bedroom is right under the eaves, and the sound of torrential rain hammering down on the skylights does nothing for my dented confidence. Yesterday was a failure. Will today be a washout?

The rain finally clears in the early afternoon, and – miracle – the sun shines down from a blue sky. With no excuse to delay any longer, I pack my rucksack and hop onto my trusty e-bike (Scooty).

Better late than never. It is nearly 5pm by the time I make it back to the Arctic Convoy memorial at the end of the road.

462 Cove to somewhere near Rubha Reidh

[This walk was completed on the 17th May 2022]

It’s my first trip back to Scotland for nearly two years. I wake very early to soft sunlight, and take a photo out of the window of my Airbnb studio-apartment. Scotland really is very, very beautiful.

461pm Barrow Haven to the Humber Bridge

[This walk was completed on the 12th November, 2021]

On the other side of the railway bridge, I’m amazed to see a proper, new, public footpath sign. “Heritage Trail”. Well, Lincolnshire, this is a pleasant surprise. A proper footpath!

461am Goxhill Haven to Barrow Haven

[This walk was completed on the 12th November 2021]

Before I return to Manchester today, I’m determined to finish the Lincolnshire coast. I park the Beast in a public car park near the station in Barton on Humber, because today I’m catching a train instead of cycling.

460 East Halton to Goxhill Haven

[This walk was completed on the 11th November 2021]

It is another morning of dithering but, eventually I decide on the logistics of today’s route, which involves a bike ride back to the church at East Halton. With Scooty safely locked up beside the church, I begin today’s walk.

459 Immingham to East Halton

[This walk was completed on the 10th November, 2021]

I set off in the morning with a clear plan. I am going to cycle to Immingham and then walk to the northernmost tip of the Lincolnshire coast, following the coastal footpath.

But I end up wasting the whole morning, before eventually parking The Beast in Immingham, and pushing my bike along an entirely different route.

458pm Grimsby to Immingham

[This walk was completed on the 9th November 2021]

The river bank stretches ahead. Immingham Docks – which I could see from the very beginning of the bank – don’t seem any nearer.

I pass a strange little concrete box. Is it a WW2 defence box? A type of pill box? If so, I’ve never seen one that looks like this before. It could also be a bus shelter, I suppose, but unlikely as this isn’t a road. A bird hide?

458am Grimsby to Immingham

[This walk was completed on the 9th November 2021]

I’m staying in a weird hotel in a little place called North Killingholme. There is no direct bus route from here to Grimsby, but I have a cunning plan. I will drive to Immingham, a nearby village, and catch the bus from there.
