We’re having an unusually warm summer this year in the UK, and in Scotland I wake up to a beautiful, sunny day, with barely a cloud in the sky. I start my walk from the ferry slipway in Ardgour.

I’m driving back towards Ardgour, along the quiet road, when the sun finally decides to make an appearance. Hello sun. Nice of you to show up. Where have you been all day?
Over a bridge and round a bend and – oh no – cattle! Three cows are walking down the middle of the road and they have a couple of tiny calves with them. Thank goodness I’m safely inside my camper van.

The Corran Ferry is a busy little ferry. The website gives precise crossing times, but in fact the ferry simply shuttles back and forwards continually, carrying traffic across Loch Linnhe. If you travel by car, the short crossing is ridiculously expensive, but if you travel by foot… it’s free!

I pack up the Beast and leave my friendly campsite behind. I drive northwards to park at the end of today’s planned walk – near the Corran Ferry – and catch a bus back to Kentallen to start my walk. Continue reading

It was a relief to spend the night in a camp site, to have access to a power hookup, to have an unlimited supply of water, and to enjoy a warm shower. I think The Beast enjoyed it too.

The cycle path runs between the road and the sea. I’ve left the carcass of the dead deer behind, and now the air really does smell sweet.

I catch the bus to Appin, and get off at the now familiar bus stop. From here it’s just a short walk down the road to rejoin the cycle way.

This vehicle, parked in yard, seems to have a message for me. “NO…LIFE.LIVEIT.” Huh? I have no idea what that means. Continue reading
Walking along this quiet road is fine. But a road is still a road. So when I spot the opportunity to follow a track, and walk closer to the coast, I decide to take it. There are only a couple of gates to navigate, and they’re easy to open.

I am reassured to see a local man waiting for the bus. But he asks me if the bus is really running, and tells me he doesn’t normally catch public transport. We wait with growing unease. This is supposed to be the school bus, but there are no children waiting. Oh dear. Continue reading
I’m lost in the woods!
I know that if I follow the same paths I took before, I’ll end up going round in a circle again. So instead of following the “long route”, I follow the “short route”.
