214 (am) Borth to Tre’r-ddol

This morning I face a dilemma.

I should, according to my rules, start today’s walk where I left off yesterday: in the village of Tre’r-ddol. But that means a bus ride and I really, really want to take the train instead. Why? Because the railway line runs where there is neither road nor footpath, right along the edge of the estuary of the Afon Dyfi.

And so I drive into Machynlleth, park my car, and catch the little train to Borth. I’m glad I did. The journey is beautiful and Borth station is lovely, with bright flowers and a platform that overlooks open fields.

213 Aberystwyth to Borth and Ynyslas

Aberystwyth faces west. This fact makes for stunning photography in the evening, but in the morning the photos aren’t so good, as the coast is shrouded with dark-blue shadows. I look at the steep cliff I came down yesterday, and am glad I’m not heading up that difficult climb today.

212 Llanrhystud to Aberystwyth

The Ceredigion Coast Path leaves Llanrhystud via the road to the caravan park. The signposting is erratic, and so at one point I nearly turn back, thinking I’ve strayed into private property.

211 Aberaeron to Llanrhystud

Aberaeron looks lovely in the soft light of morning, with the tide high, and the ships bobbing in the marina.

210 Cwmtydu, New Quay to Aberaeron

A man is putting signs up on Cwmtydu beach. There is a seal pup here, so you must stay away and keep your dog on a lead. The prospect of a seal pup may explain why so many cars are parked along the sea front. Sadly, there is no sign of the pup, nor its mother, this morning.

209 pm Llangrannog to Cwmtydu

By the time I leave Llangrannog the blue sky is dotted with fluffy, white clouds. Ahead the tall peak of Pen-y-Badell seems to be on fire, as the sun suddenly catches the bracken on its slopes.

209 am Aberporth to Llangrannog

I return to Aberporth by car, and admire the mural in the parking area…

… before walking across the beach to the other side of the bay, where I can look back at the opposite headland and remember how grateful I was to arrive here yesterday.

208 Cardigan to Aberporth

Today is a walk in three parts. All very different.

Despite my sadness at finishing the Pembrokeshire National Trail, I’m looking forward to the Ceredigion Coast Path. It starts gently from Cardigan, beginning with a pleasant walk alongside the river.

207 Moylgrove to Cardigan

This morning I catch the bus from Cardigan to Moylgrove, and then walk along the narrow road that leads towards the coast.

There is a lovely, relaxed feel to this part of Wales. I pass a driveway with bags of fresh apples for sale (£1 per bag, in an honesty box). The next driveway has cartons of fresh eggs for sale and another honesty box. And another offers free horse manure, but they want the sacks back, please. Continue reading

206 Newport to Moylgrove

I catch the bus to Newport, which looks very attractive this morning, despite the tide being out. As usual I take far too many photographs. Dinas Head is impressive in the distance.
